The own-property lane is real, and its tripwire is the fee: the moment pest work is paid for, the licence is required. An owner treating her own rental is inside the law; a cleaner, neighbor or handyman paid to do it is not.

Why the line is drawn where it is: pesticides released in a rental house reach the next family weeks later, through surfaces, air and toys on the floor. The licence regime — with its phases, its categories and its responsibility rules — exists because 'for hire' is where the incentive to cut corners begins. A statute that let anyone with a sprayer sell pest work would not be a lighter regime; it would be an unaccountable one.

What this looks like on a turn: a crew finds evidence — droppings, casings, a wasp nest beginning over the door — and the response is documentation, sanitation, exclusion where possible, and a written note to the owner recommending a licensed company for the treatment. What it never looks like is a bottle from a truck solving the problem off the books. The first response keeps everyone legal; the second makes the cleaning company liable and the owner's house unlawfully treated.

The rental's money keeps its own rules regardless: the stay remits the 6% Dare County occupancy tax to the county and the 4.75% NC general sales tax rate to the state, and a pest problem handled lawfully is one that never interrupts that calendar. Handled unlawfully, it interrupts everything at once.

Sanitation, exclusion, documentation, referral — that is the lawful pest toolkit of a cleaning company, and it is a better first response than an unlawful spray anyway. Hire the licence for the poison; hire us for the turn.
